Famous Grouse, one of the most popular blends in the world and the best-selling Scotch whiskey in Scotland, is a very pleasantly balanced malt blend, first produced in 1896. It was actually created by Matthew Gloag's company when asked to deliver wine to a royal banquet. Queen Victoria also took part.
Matthew Gloag's son William improved the mix called The Grouse and in 1905 renamed it The Famous Grouse. About eighty years later, the company received a Royal Warrant. This mixture is very high quality compared to the price and also fits beautifully into mixed drinks with whiskey. She is excellent.
Aroma: Crispy, light aroma offering tones of caramelised apples, hints of dried flowers and biscuit barley.
Taste: Balanced taste full of biscuits with a core of thick and creamy malt. The hint of spice and the slightest whisper of smoke brings great complexity.
Finish: Finely sweet malt finish.
Overall: Very malty biscuit mix. Obviously why it is so popular in Scotland!
